Essay on: Electricity
Electricity
Today, human life has become more
comfortable, advanced and developed because of many scientific inventions.
Among them electricity is one of such inventions which is regarded to be one of
the wonders of modern science. Electricity was invented by the American
scientist; Edward Edison in 1878. The use of electricity first began in
England.
Electricity is of two kinds: Static
and Current. Static electricity cannot be transferred from one object to another
and from one place to another. Current electricity can be transferred from one
place to another by wishes. The electricity which we are using in current
electricity.
Electricity is generated with the
help of water. So it is called hydro-electricity. Electricity is also produced
by coal, petroleum and other fuel. But the electricity produced in this way is
more expensive than hydro-electricity.
We can hardly imagine our life without
electricity. Electricity has many uses. It can be used for heating ad lighting,
cooking washing and driving machinery of all kinds. In the cold season we can
heat our rooms by electricity. In the hot season, it can be used to move the
fans and make the room cool. In big cities people have to walk at night. The
streets are lighted with electricity which makes people convenient to walk at
night. In big cities there are big houses with the help of electricity one can
go up in a lift to the topmost flat in a moment. The buses, cars, trains can
move with the help of electricity. One can speak with other people at a great
distance over the telephone which is run by electricity. The radio and
television work with the help of electricity. Telegraphic messages are sent
with the help of electricity. In the villages electric torch light are very
popular to use at night. Electricity is also used in the treatment of patients.
It is used in cooking food, ironing clothes and heating water. Electricity
helps in agriculture as well. Electric pumps are used in irrigating lands. All
kinds of machines in industries and factories can be driven by electricity.
Thus, it has many advantages.
Nepal has a great potentiality of
hydro-electricity. Many Nepalese rivers flow all the years round making high
falls Some hydro-electric projects are Devi Ghat, Gandaki, Kulekhani, Trihshuli
and Marshyangdi, Kaligandaki. These projects have been by foreign countries. As
Nepal lacks adequate capital, it has to depend on the foreign investments. If
Nepal can make proper use of the water flowing through our rivers, it can earn
a lot of money by selling hydro-electricity to foreign countries.
Electricity is a useful servant but it
can be dangerous enemy. An electric shock can kill one instantly. So we must
use it with wire. It should not be handled by ignorant persons. It can be a
useful servant if we use it carefully.
As conclusion, though we can hardly
imagine our life without electricity today, it is still out of rich for many
people in many remote parts of the country. It is still expensive and many
people with low income cannot afford it. Even in the electrified areas there is
lack of regular supply of electricity. If Nepal gives high priority to
electricity generation, all the above problems can be overcome and it can
be a major source of national income.
